Your First Draft Is Like A Petulant Teenager…. #writers #writingquote

Your first draft is a petulant teenager, sure it knows best, adamant that its Mother is wrong. Your third draft has emerged from puberty, realising that its Mother was right about everything.”

  1. Good, workable philosophy, I think. If I had to metaphorise the process for me, my first drafts are like the shy “geeky” teen, probably to match the writer’s level starting out on a new project. It’s not that I lack enthusiasm . . . what I feel I need at this point, however, is feedback outside my own head and my one or three poor beta readers who do it all for me. I kind of feel they’re more, then, like first-draft with blinders and muted, then the process gradually opens up and I get joyful and feel more momentum as I continue writing and editing. Then don’t usually get a lot of feedback, still, but at least I’ve enjoyed the writing process and have a subjective feeling that I’m improving! 🙂
