17 Reasons Why Being a Little Weird is Good #MondayBlogs #MondayMotivation

Here at BlondeWriteMore we are celebrating people who are a little bit weird.

I am definitely in the ‘little bit weird’ camp. For years I worried about it and tried to be normal. After finding myself through blogging and writing I am now embracing my weirdness!

Here are some reasons why it’s good to be a little bit weird:

  1. A quote from Donna Lynn Hope ‘We are a sea of ordinary people; it is always the quirk, flaw or the ingenuity that stands out.’
  2. Friendships with other people who are also a little weird are the best! Friendships which involve you pretending to be normal can be a little dull.
  3. ‘Being weird adds spice to life. Having weird friends just deepens the flavour!’ Jayelle Cochran
  4. Love this quote from Eileen Anglin – ‘I think what people call ‘weird’ comes part and parcel with people who are brillant in some way. So embrace your weird. Embrace your eccentricity.
  5. Our weird ways make us interesting.
  6. Being a little weird means you might have some secret abilities; you can silence a group discussion with your odd viewpoint or you might be able to put people off their food with your unusual culinary tastes.
  7. It is such a wonderful moment when you meet someone who is a little weird like you. Love this quote from Fiona Wood ‘we look at each other with shy relief. Its the look two odd socks give each when they recognise each other in the wild.’
  8. As this great article from Forbes says ‘To fit inside the cookie cutter, you have to lob off a part of yourself. It hurts less to just be authentic.’
  9. ‘Weird is the new cool and normal the new boring; Stay weird’ Evy Michaels.
  10. Weird relatives always get remembered so if you want to be talked about by future generations – stay weird!
  11. Writers who are a little weird write the best books!
  12. ‘Be yourself because an original is always worth more than a copy’  Suzy Kassem
  13. Being a little bit weird ‘keeps me from getting bored with myself’  Kristy Pellegrin
  14. People who are a little bit weird make the best dancers! Fact!
  15. ‘The most interesting people are the unusual. No one writes about or discusses the average, the ordinary, or the common; they write about and discuss the weird, the mad and the different, so if you are one, even though the opinions of others are of no importance, you are, in their eyes, significant enough to notice and remember!’  Donna Lynn Hope.
  16. ‘To be CREATIVE, you have to be CRAZY, not because you’re CRAZY or want others to become CRAZY, but because you must be CRAZY, before others become CRAZY for you!’ Michael Bassey Johnson
  17. People who are a little weird make the best obsessed fans. They are so loyal and never give up…sigh!  If you are trying to grow a following make sure you have a few fans who are a little weird!

I am going to now raise my coffee cup and toast all my blog readers / followers who, like me, are a little bit weird and are ok with that! Cheers..

Have a fantastic day!

  1. Marvellous blog, and I’m going to follow up on some of those quotes. At the same time I have a warm feeling for those who feel average and long to stand out. You do, you do. Everyone has a weird streak: when you find it, embrace it, that’s the key.

  2. Good lord; who wants to be labelled as “normal”??? That alone is weird IMO. Besides, can you write form a normal frame of mind I wonder… whatever that is… Of course, if we take Roxy then I feel quite at home so maybe that is, in fact, my normal; which is now your normal too and it is the “normal” normal folk that are weird… savvy? (to coin Jack Sparrow).

Quirky weird and a justifiable schizoid mind with lots of strange voices… writers rock 🙂

Great post Lucy, or is that Roxy? I no longer no which of you is real 😉

    1. 😂😂😂 sigh! Yes I was normal for 40yrs and then decided one morning, before my cornflakes, that it was time to become a writer and embrace my weirdness. You are right – who wants to be normal??

  3. I always tell people weird and different are not negatives. I am happy to be described as weird and different. Yes embrace it – what you wrote was true. We are the people that get the rest of the group on the dance floor, that make trying something new okay and help push people’s boundaries even a little. We are those people!!

  4. Weirdos unite! My friend Dana told me a story of a little boy she was babysitting years ago. That little man announced, “Dana, everybody is somebody else’s weirdo.” It’s one of my favorite wisdom nuggets. The quirky and the cooky are the best parts in all of us, and I’m with you–I never want to apologize for that. I love your list and that old socks quote is fan-frickin-tastic. 🙂
