Welcome to the final part of my blog series – Vampire & Single.
Last week after escaping from her hospital basement prison Sasha realised she had to return and face evil Viktor by herself. Viktor would never stop in his quest to gain her special vampire powers.
This is the story of Sasha, an ordinary twenty three year old woman who never wanted to become a vampire. Through this serialised story we have seen Sasha struggle with her physical transformation and learn she is no ordinary vampire.
Part 13 – The Fight
I have returned to my prison cell to wait for Viktor.
If I don’t put a stop to Viktor my life will always be spent running from him or living in fear that he will do something terrible to me.
Before I returned to my basement cell I broke into a store-room and tore the wooden leg off a table. It is now wedged underneath my mattress. This will be the weapon I use to kill Viktor with.
Emily is still sat staring into space. Her body is rigid, her lips have turned grey and there are flies crawling around the outside of her mouth.
Footsteps can be heard in the corridor. My heart is pounding. I lie back clutching my wooden table leg. To make it look convincing I have set up the machine again and arranged the chains so it looks like nothing has changed.
Viktor enters the room, clad in blue surgical overalls and a white mask around his neck. His eyes fix upon me in the cell and then dart to Emily.
“Darling – what are you doing?” he calls out to her.
She doesn’t move or stir.
Muttering to himself he opens the cell door. He shakes her roughly by the shoulder. “Emily!” he shouts, pulling her back. Like a plastic mannequin in a clothes shop she falls over, still maintaining her trance like state.
“What have you done to her?” he roars turning to face me. His dark eyes start to glow a deep orange colour and the tips of his white fangs appear at the corners of his mouth.
“You did this!” I hiss. “You forced her to drink too much human blood!”
He takes a step closer and towers over me.
“I am going to rip you apart bit by bit Sasha!” he snarls. Creamy slobber drips from his fangs. He bends down, yanks me off the mattress and throws me into the air. With a huge roar he hurls me against the metal bars. I crash head first into them, sliding down to the floor with black shapes dancing in front of my eyes.
With a huge bellow he sends me skittering across the floor, crashing into the blood machine. It collapses on top of me as I lie gasping for air.
“I drank your blood Sasha!” he yells. “It tasted good!” He lets out another roar. “Once I have killed you I will drink you dry Sasha!”
I scramble to my feet and leap into the air. He is too quick clamping onto my arms, dragging me kicking and screaming down to the floor.
He holds me in a terrifying grip by the neck. I watch his lips form a smile, revealing two large dazzling white fangs. He leans closer, tightening his hold and squeezing the life out of me. His rugged and unshaved face is almost touching mine. I lean back as he cocks his head and stares at my neck.
‘Nooooooo!” I scream, finding some strength to shove him away. He looks shocked as he gathers himself, wipes his mouth and runs towards me. I duck his flailing fists. In a flash he hurls me down onto the concrete floor. I hit the ground at speed and crash into Emily, lying stiff as a board on her side. Her eyes, once laughing blue, are now black and her skin has turned stone grey.
Viktor is climbing on top of me. I can’t seem to shake him off. He is pressing my legs down with his knees. His huge hands are wrapped around my neck, choking every last gasp of air out of me.
“I am going to enjoy this!” he snarls, letting his jaws open. His body presses down on top of me like a lead weight. I can’t move or breathe. Every wriggle or squirm results in him tightening the grip around my throat.
His fangs are so close to my neck I can feel a mixture of his hot breath and slobber on my skin.
“You are so beautiful Sasha!” he growls, licking his lips with his giant pink tongue.
I can’t shake him off.
He clamps my neck still with one hand, throws back his head to let out the most deafening roar. The metal bars behind my head shake and rattle in protest.
His monstrous body shudders with anticipation before he forces his head down towards my neck. I close my eyes.
There is a huge thwacking sound followed by a deafening crunching sound. Viktor’s body goes limp on top of me. His giant head lolls across my shoulder.
I frantically heave and push him off to see Emily, standing over him, clutching my wooden stake with a bloodied end.
“Emily!” I croak in shock, at the sight of her.
“I lied when I said I liked him!” she giggles, watching his body slide onto the floor. With trembling limbs I scramble to my feet and catch sight of a huge bloody gaping hole in Viktor’s back.
“Is he dead?” I gasp, staring at his lifeless eyes and open mouth.
“I don’t know but let’s finish him off!” she squeals turning over the Russian vampire’s body. Once on his back she raises the wooden stake and drives it deep into his chest.
I can only stand and stare. Thick red blood oozes out of his chest cavity. I watch Emily kneel down and start to drink.
“What are you doing?” I hiss.
“Come and have a drink Sasha!” she says, gesturing for me to join her.
“You saved my life Emily,” I say, trying to ignore her soft moans of pleasure as she starts to drink Viktor’s blood. It looks so beautiful, glistening on the floor under the flourescent light. My mouth is salivating and I can’t stop licking my lips.
“Oh this is so good Sasha! I feel alive again!” Emily says, turning to face me and rising to her feet. Blood is smeared all over her face and there is a red tinge to her blonde hair.
“I thought you were dead,” I say, recalling the rigid looking Emily sat staring at the wall.
She hiccups loudly and giggles. “No, not dead!”
In a flash Emily is by my side, grinning at me. “I have killed Viktor and now I am going to kill you Sasha!” she shrieks, wiping her blood splattered mouth.
“Emily what are you doing?” I hiss, my heart is pounding as I grip onto the metal bars behind me.
“I have wanted to do this for a long time Sasha,” she squeals, shoving me hard against the metal bars. Her bloodied face presses up to mine, her foul-smelling breath makes my stomach heave.
I try to push her way but I don’t have the strength. The fight with Viktor must have drained me.
She grabs me forcefully by the neck. “It is over for you Sasha, goodbye and good riddance!” she whispers, smiling to reveal green stained fangs. She presses her ghostly grey face closer to mine.
“Sasha believe in yourself!” barks Henry from inside my head.
His words grow louder.
A huge ball of anger and hatred starts to shoot up my body. “No!” I snarl, pushing Emily away.
She screams and rushes towards me snarling and spraying slobber.
I look down at my chest which is starting to glow. Emily screams as a powerful ray of bright light shoots out of me lighting up the prison cell. She shields her eyes and tries to edge closer to me. My inner light is too strong for her and it forces her into retreat.
I walk towards her with my arms outstretched at my sides. She drops to the ground in a heap.
“Sasha please stop this I am burning!” she cries, covering her eyes.
I stand in front of her as the light from my chest grows more intense.
“Sasha nooooooo!” Emily screams.
I close my eyes and savour the glorious warmth which is consuming my body.
Emily wails and goes silent. I open my eyes to see that she is now lying unconscious face down on the floor.
“Sasha!” Henry barks making me look up, he is at the cell door with Lila. He rushes inside to embrace me. Tears are streaming down my cheeks as I bury my face into his shoulder.
We break away and I can see Lila standing over Viktor. “This place needs cleaning up Henry, shall I call someone?” she says, taking out a silver mobile phone.
“Yes – can you make the call?” he asks, wiping a layer of sweat from his forehead.
“What about Emily?” I croak, knowing she’s not dead.
“Do you want to kill her?” asks Henry, reaching down to hand me the wooden stake.
I glance at Emily’s shrivelled body on the floor. My fingers grasp the wooden stake and I take a step towards her.
My heart is thudding loudly in my chest. Can I do this? Can I drive a stake into Emily’s chest?
Henry and I are travelling back to the airport. I am laid against Henry’s shoulder in the back seat of one of his cars. He is gently stroking my hair.
“How are you feeling?” he whispers, putting his arm around me.
“Not great!” I murmur. My mind is awash with everything that went on in the prison cell in the basement of the hospital; Viktor’s attempt to kill me, Emily’s awakening, the way she murdered Viktor and her attempt to kill me.
With a trembling hand I wipe away a tear from my cheek.
“It is going to be ok,” Henry says quietly, giving my shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “Viktor is dead. You are free.”
“What will happen now?” I ask, lifting my head to look at him.
“The place was cleaned of your DNA. Once the police arrive they will take Emily away!” says Henry, running his thumb over my cheek to catch another stray tear which has managed to escape.
“Was she still out of it when you left?” I say through chattering teeth. Henry had suggested I go wait in the car during the clean up operation.
“She awoke momentarily but slipped into the trance like state you witnessed.”
I couldn’t kill Emily. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t thrust a stake into her chest. I stood for a long time willing myself to do it but something was stopping me. Despite all the horrid things she had done to me I couldn’t bring myself to kill her.
We left her alive.
Two months later:
I have finally started to enjoy being a vampire.
Henry and I live in a remote farmhouse, miles away from civilisation in rural Scotland. We are surrounded by hills, forests and fields. This means we can be ourselves. We can walk around our farmhouse with our fangs on show, we can growl or snarl whenever we feel like it, we can drink blood (non-human) to our hearts content and we can eat a varied and tasty meat based diet.
I have started to forget about Emily. We have heard through Henry’s contacts that she is in a secure mental hospital and too ill to stand trial for the murder of Viktor, the world’s leading heart surgeon.
Henry and I are sat on top of a hill watching the sun rise. It is our morning ritual and something I look forward too. We are snuggled underneath a tartan blanket, my head is laid on his shoulder. “I love you Sasha Green,” he murmurs as a burst of happiness shoots through me.
I have finally found happiness and someone to share my vampire life with.
I thought it was more interesting to not kill Emily and it leaves the story open. I hope you have enjoyed it.
Next week Roxy returns to my blog.
