You will be amazed at how some of the quotes from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland can apply to writers and their creative life.
- “It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then” – as writers we dive in and out of character’s minds, have a daily love / hate relationship with our creative work and somedays live inside our heads. We are different people every day. I think this quote sums up being a writer.
- “We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” – sigh! We make up stories, agonise for hours over the word order of one small sentence and have conversations with fictional people who live in our heads – yep we are all mad here!
- “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” – Oh my goodness – this quote screams ‘WRITER!’ – who hasn’t believed six impossible things about their writing before breakfast? Or is this just me? Sigh!
- “I’m afraid I can’t explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?” – as a writer I am constantly saying this!
- “Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.” – writing helps us fight this battle.
- “Birds of a feather flock together” – I am just going to writer friends and how we all flock together (on Twitter!)
- “I almost wish I hadn’t gone down that rabbit-hole—and yet—and yet—it’s rather curious, you know” – just like how you feel after you emerge from writing a new story. Read my post on rabbit holes and story ideas.
- “It’s always tea-time.” – it is when we are procrastinating or in need of a caffeine fix!
Have a great day!

Good morning Lucy!
“Curiouser and curiouser!” Cried Alice (she was so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English).
Yes!!! Ha ha! Great
I’m definitley mad and I may have thought of six impossible things before breakfast, maybe not killing the Jabberwocky but more along the line of “This day might actually go to plan!” Ha!
Happy Thursday Lucy! 🙂
