Here are some similarities between blogging and girlie nights out:
1. You want to make a visual impact on a girls night out and you also want to do the same with a blog post too.
To make that visual impact on a girls night out you might squeeze yourself into a glitzy party frock, apply some makeup (or war paint), add some matching accessories, shove your feet into some killer heels and give your hair an eye-catching style.
With a blog post to make that visual impact you might add a nice arty photo, add an exciting video clip, add some white spaces to your text and give it an eye-catching title.
2. There is a fun build up to both a girls night out and to publishing a blog post.
The build up to a girls night out is fun and can include some cheap wine, good dance tunes to get you in the mood, some indecision over outfits and a lot of giggling – all done under a thick cloud of hair spray.
The build up to publishing a blog post is also fun and can include adding in some interesting links, doing some research, playing ‘hunt the typo’ and giggling to yourself at the quality of your post – all done under a thick cloud of blog stats optimism.
3. On a girls night out and with publishing a blog post it’s important to be seen in the right places.
On a girls night out you make sure you hit the right bars and nightclubs; the ones where you are guaranteed of a good night out, access to a karaoke machine and where there might be some eye candy. It’s important to be seen in the hot and happening places where all the social action is.
With a blog post you want to be sure that it hits the right places too, this is done through tagging, adding categories, joining linky parties and covering it in hashtags. It’s important for your post to be seen in the hot and happening places where all the blogging action is.
4. You express yourself through certain skills on a girls night out and via a blog post.
On a girls night out you express yourself through your dance skills. Some of us are better at dancing than others and some of us just chuck some bizarre body shapes together, close our eyes and hope for the best.
With a blog post you express yourself through your writing skills. Some of us are better at writing than others and some of us just chuck some words together and hope for the best.
5. On a girls night out and with a blog post its important to be sociable.
On a girls night you might bump into old friends or make new friends at the bar or on the dance floor. The more people who say hello to you the more popular you feel. If you no one says hello to you can find yourself experiencing a ‘low mood’ and this leaves you going home with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp.
On a blog post you may bump into other bloggers in your comments section, your blog reader or welcome new bloggers via your post. The more bloggers who say hello to you the more popular you feel. If no one likes your post you can find yourself experiencing a ‘low mood’ too and after a day of silence on the blog front you can end up with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp.
6. The success of a girls night out and a blog post will be determined through a number of factors:
Girls night out success factors:
- Number of good tunes played by the DJ.
- Number of times you danced / how bad your feet hurt the next day.
- The amount of eye candy’ dancing around you.
- Whether or not you received any smouldering looks from a potential love interest.
- The laughs you had with the girls.
- Number of phone numbers exchanged (if single / looking for love)
- Any slow dances with a potential love interest (resulting in maybe a peck on the cheek or a little snog)
Blog post success factors:
- Number of likes compared to other posts.
- Number of comments compared to other posts.
- The amount of tweets your post generated.
- The amount of time your post got retweeted.
- Whether or not your post caught the eye of any influential blogger’s.
- The laughs you had with other bloggers over your post.
- Number of new blog followers.
- Any guest blogger requests.
7. Both can leave you in a bit of a state afterwards.
A girls night out can leave you feeling tired, suffering from a headache and moaning about how much your feet hurt.
A good blog post can you leave you feeling tired, suffering from a blog stats spike withdrawal and moaning about how much blog admin you have to do.
8. There can be some regrets after a girls night out and after a blog post has been published.
After a girls night out you might regret launching into some embarrassing dance moves on the dance floor, drinking too many lemonades and dancing a bit too much with a potential love interest.
After a blog post has been published you might regret making some poor jokes, having the idea for such a poor blog post, making a cheeky comment back to another blogger in your comments section (their silence says a lot) and wishing you had replied a bit sooner (not 4 days later) to that influential blogger’s comment.
Have fun bloggers out there bloggers!
For noting – my top 3 dance moves from ‘back in the day’ when girls nights out were a weekly occurrence:
- The lasso – handbag twirled round head in a lasso type move whilst holding the gaze of a potential loved one.
- The shoulder roll – self-explanatory.
- The box – make box shapes with hands quite fast and with a serious expression on face.

I’ll make sure to keep my distance from toy when you’re on the face floor, that lasso move sounds lethal lol.
I like the analogy here, thought i’ve never put on a glittery dress or heels or been online and a girls night or to be honest. Lol
Never say never Simon 🙂
I know. I don’t have the hips or chest for that sort of dress lol
I was just thinking of that. I need a girls’ night out. Any volunteers?
Always up for one – we could a ‘virtual one’ – lol
Actually it’s my birthday next week and I am going to throw a virtual birthday party with virtual cake and virtual dance floor – sigh!
Woo hoo – how exciting! Happy 25th in advance 🙂
💐 thx it’s going to be a blast! I love 25!
Yes, you must be really excited to leave behind those awkward teen years 🙂
Nice to finally get into my late 20s sigh!
Surely you mean early 20s?
I have been in my early 20s for so long now it’s nice to have a change
I’ll go out with with the girls…
Great, it’s settled then. Lucy? Care to set it up?
Hi there, I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award. Go and see my post here for more info https://sfarnell.wordpress.com/2015/09/09/my-liebster-award/
Have a great day!
Simon 🙂
Woo hoo – that is so kind of you! Thank you 🙂
That’s ok – it’s a pleasure!
Haha, hilarious comparisons. 😁 Great post, it put a smile on my face this friday morning. Happy friday ☺
Happy Friday Amina Berg 🙂
I had no idea. I don’t do many girl’s nights out, but my cousin did invite me to a 1995 P&P party on Sunday. Figure that one out! ha!
Would love a 1995 party 🙂 This was when I was at my best in terms of dancing
This 1995 party will be all about P&P BBC 1995 Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. There will be no dancing, unless it’s Victorian era inspired. hahahaha We are all gonna be big nerds. Next time It will probably be an Anne of Green Gables shindig. hahahahaha Me in 1995 was rather awkward. Next time I need to go out with your and your girls for a night. Then we can see if the awkward is still in me. 🙂 Actually, if you compare it to a blog post, we might already know the answer! ha! You’re such a great gal, IBFF. Keep up the good work.
Well, I would take a girl’s night out over a blog post.
So would I too 🙂
Good Lord, who are you going out with?!
This was ‘back in the day’ when girls nights out were a weekly occurrence. Sadly I don’t get to do these much now that I am married off and with kids. It’s nice to go back down memory lane…..when we were all single and having fun 🙂
Not everyone is “married off with kids”. There are plenty of single women in the world. For the record, I’ve never behaved like that, but I am well aware that I am the exception, not the rule.
To each their own.
Happy Friday!
You do realize it’s okay to agree or disagree with me, right?
One of my favorite moves was the shopping cart, which is a little like a cross between ‘the pony’ and something from Saturday Night Fever.’ I should mention that I rarely gained smouldering glances from potential love interests while out on the dance floor, but I sure made impressions! Isn’t that what marketing is all about?
I rarely gained smouldering looks when I was ‘out there’ – I was giving smouldering looks out but not receiving them. Sigh! Love love love the sound of your dance move!
It’s so easy. Just pretend you are pushing a shopping cart with two hands, but the floor is slightly bouncy. Now pick up a can from a high shelf and drop it in the cart. Again. Oh yes, now you are a classy lady.
Do you think at 41 with two kids and married I can give this move a go?
Its a move that only gets better with age. Imagine just how red your children’s face’s will get watching you in action – they will be so proud.
Love the parallels you’ve made and absolutely lost it when I read #5: “…a bulldog chewing a wasp.” This cracked me up. I’ve fallen and can’t get up. 😀 😀 😀
Oh Tess I am glad it made you smile! Happy Friday 🙂
Happy Friday back at you. ❤
Love, love , love this! Hilarious. Have to say my build up to a blog post often includes cheap wine! Now, I only wish you’d demonstrated those fab dance moves at the bloggers bash. Still, there’s always next year and I’ve got a very good memory 😉
I come to life on a dance floor Esther – things get serious!
Awesome. 😀
Thx Sarah – always nice to see you 🙂
ohhhhh A demonstration of the dance moves via a video blog post would be excellent, my friend!!!!
I’m especially looking forward to the box move, and your newly learned shopping cart move.
I’ve been laid up with a bad back, can you please take pity on me and entertain me?
Lol – a video blog post – oh my goodness! There would be a lot of ‘jealous’ people out there trying to replicate my moves! 😉
Another reason to do it. lol
Hope your back gets better 💐
Thanks. I’m trying to get by without drugs today. I think it would be too easy for me to become addicted to them. ha ha
Vegas Baby! Need I say more? No one there has seen your signature moves yet.
Happy Friday
Yes Tracey, I need to head on over 🙂
This is just hilarious! **Bloody hilarious!** Was in fits of laughter all the way through and when I got to the bit about silence after leaving comments, I literally almost fell off my chair and now my belly hurts….why? I’ve been doing Blog-tember….I started off all perky and ‘let’s DO THIS’ commando style commenting…through post after post I’d read and enjoyed…..OK….things are going OK….then boom! A comment in Disqus…(in reply to my comment saying I’d really enjoyed being pregnant, it was one of the most beautiful times in my life; in my defence, she did look really happy in her pregnancy photo)….”Actually, I’ve had a hideous pregnancy; you should have read all about it in my ‘About me’ page”…(OK….sorry…)….I then find myself parked up against her the next day (so I have to comment)…..I click through, see some beautiful paintings on her post and – yep, you guessed it! – comment saying “Wow! You’re such a talented artist! I love your paintings!”…(God, I’m literally almost wetting myself writing this!)….the reply comes: “They’re not my paintings”…..!!! I didn’t know quite where to put my Blog Face (and now I have tears literally running down my cheeks, I’ve been laughing so hard, remembering it….)…..”My feet are so big, oh so very big…I like to walk around with them in my mouth, all day long, oh yeah, oh yeah”…..!!!
You do make me chuckle Helen 🙂
Hah 😉
I’m almost back yay! 😀
Fab post, BFF. Would love to see you do the lasso move.
Thx E Rawls – it’s quite a dance move 🙂
Hahaha! The box dance move! Years ago a buddy of mine taught me that. I thought he was the only person who did that, and whenever we were out with him we’d dance the box. So weird! Anyway, thanks for the post and bringing back good memories. 🙂
Thx for reading and happy Sunday 🙂
I love these quirky comparisons! This is right up my alley! 🙂
Thx for reading and happy Sunday 🙂
And the same to you! 🙂
The Lasso!! Hope you are going to the Bloggers Bash and can do a demo! Great post – with some really useful info (on both blogging and nights out!) Thanks
What about a girls night out with your girlie bloggers!!!!!
Such a fab post!! I had never thought of the similarities but you’ve got it spot on and a great idea for a post!
Well, Lucy, that made me smile 🙂 What’s a girlie night out? Damn, I had forgotten what it is, so thanks for the refresher, so I shall just enjoy publishing my posts in the meantime 🙂 Enjoyed the post!
